Bratford 1-0 Shrimps

  • On January 15, 2020

Weds 1st Jan 2020, Valley Parade, Lge 2, 3pm.

We are in this position, languishing in 23rd place, because of many things. Poor results, lack of investment, poor recruitment, daft sendings off and not taking chances.
Today, the difference between the side chasing automatic promotion and the one fighting to stay out of non -league, was a substitute who was on the ball. It wasn’t a classic, it was technical, tight and had very little goalmouth action. But, we missed our two chances, they took one of their two, and lo and behold, they march on, we drop down again.
Steve Old had our best efforts, a stinging header from a Conlan corner was blocked two yards out, a melee ensued where legs were swung and eventually it was smuggled to safety. Minutes later, Conlan swung in a wicked free kick and Old again met it, it crashed on the bar and fell nicely to be cleared. HT 0-0, but the home side got booed off!!

More of the same would ensure a decent away point, and we did contain the Bantams. To be fair, we offered no threat whatsoever in the opposing half, but with 15 minutes left the home fans were baying for blood, two subs came on and the game changed. We sat back, couldn’t get out of our half, and the pressure built.
On 80 minutes, a speculative cross bounced over Vaughan, sub Oteh mis trapped the ball, but reacted quickest to prod over the advancing Halstead. 1-0. Game over. They did hit the bar, now the home fans were happy, but we cleared that away.
on the day, Arimede Oteh, on loan from QPR, who couldn’t get in the starting 11, proved the difference in class on the day.
Onwards, but we have to change if we are to survive.
