Match-day Experience Improvements Survey

Jason Whittingham and Mike Hinchcliffe from the board of Morecambe FC requested a meeting with the trustees of Shrimps Trust. This meeting took place on Saturday 11th August 2018, just before the opening game of the season against Exeter City.

It was a very positive meeting. Jason expressed his interest in the business side of the club, and said that the club wants to develop links with the community and to engage with fans with a view to attracting more support to the Globe Arena on match days.

The Trust agreed to gather suggestions from the membership for improvements to the ground and to the match-day experience so that the club and Shrimps Trust can work together to implement improvements to boost attendance.

Jason requested that all suggestions be prioritised so that we all know which improvements are the most important and we can start work on those first.

The Trust organised an open meeting for all MFC supporters on Tuesday 28th August 2018 in JB’s Bar. The meeting was well attended and produced a list of 32 suggested improvements.

These suggestions were collated into an online voting form (see attached form) and made available from 9th September for all MFC supporters to select their top 5 preferred improvements. There was also space for any alternative suggestions and the supporter’s email address so that we could remove any duplicates. The form was also made available in a paper format, for those supporters without Internet access.

We received 81 on-line responses and 3 paper responses by 30th September 2018.

The suggestion voted Most Important by 65.5% of supporters was:-

  •          Roof/cover over the back of the Omega stand

To prioritise all 32 suggestions, each one was then awarded points depending on their importance. 10 points were awarded each time the suggestion was voted most important; 8 points for each time it was voted 2nd most important; 6 points for 3rd most important; 4 points for 4th most important; and 2 points for 5th most important.

The top 6 points scoring suggestions are:-

1.    Roof/cover over the back of the Omega stand

2.    Improve service in the Omega bar and provide sufficient food and drink

3.    More happy hours or discounts for Shrimps Trust members in JBs Bar

4.    Advertise home fixtures more widely around the town

5.    Provide tables, seating, shelving for food and drink in the Omega bar area

6.    Penalty shoot-outs, beat the keeper, crossbar challenge at half-time
