Scunthorpe U 3-0 Shrimps
- On October 4, 2019
Saturday 14 Sept 2019, League 2 3pm Glanford Park.
So we arrived just above The Irons with some patchy draws and a win but Scunthorpe hadn’t had a win in 16 games trailing all the way back to last season and their relegation. We started brightly, with some neat football, a powder puff effort from Wildig which the keeper gratefully fell on when perhaps power would have been better than placement and then a Tutte shot which he did well to beat away augured well.
However that all changed as O’Sullivan tempted a foot on Van Veen in the box, he fell like an axed beech tree and despite Baz saving the first effort from the spot, the rebound fell nicely to be tucked away. For the next twenty minutes, the home side ran around full of confidence and we looked shell shocked. A long range effort from Done was pushed onto the post by Baz but Van Even pounced from an angle to double the lead.
Then another long range vicious effort was beaten away to fall nicely at the feet of an unmarked Iron who gleefully side footed home and the game was over as a contest.
They had six shots on target, the first one saved and the rebound tucked in from every shot.
Tbf we rallied in the second period for ten minutes, Allesandra having an effort well saved, O’Sullivan header saved low to his left, and a penalty awarded and missed with Buxton not exactly sparking it hard, so it wasn’t our day. We had 6 shots on target all game, they had 7, but we were second best for the 20 minutes and left with nothing.
