Shrimps 1-1 Colchester
- On January 15, 2020
Saturday Jan 11, Globe Arena, Lg 2, 3pm.
All change from the Bradford defeat.
6 changes to the starting line-up, including 4 new signings all included and its a new era? Or is it? Time will tell.
The wind and rain were horrific, but we had the advantage with it at our backs first half. Or rather the hindrance, as everything we hit, other than a couple of Slew shots and a Kenyon effort, all high wide and handsome, ended up as goal kicks.
A long ball to Norris was intercepted and smacked into touch off the visiting centre forward by the alert Lavelle. It’s a pity the ref and liner were not as alert, they wrongly awarded the throw to Colchester. They took it quickly, Clampin exchanged passes and crossed for Nouble to deftly flick home on the run, HT 0-1. here we go again!!
Second period we got to grips, Big Dave ( Toums Diagoraga’s nickname at Hereford, Brentford, Plymouth and Leeds, who are we to argue??) ran the middle with Kenyon, Slew ran the channels, Phillips looked impressive in his inventive distribution and Cooney at full back looked solid but clever in possession. Suddenly we were threat, and the U’s fell deeper. Slew couldn’t finish a difficult chance after decent cross from the right by Carlos, and the keeper saved well from Cole. OSullivan came on for the exhausted Slew, Carlos switched flanks and immediately we made inroads. OSullivan it was who took on his man and fired in an early cross, Phillips timed his run superbly and deftly flicked a header home to equalise 1-1.
We went for the win, and so did Colchester, a vicious inswinging corner palmed onto and over the bar by Halstead. Minutes later a long range daisy cutter was again deftly flicked to safety off the post by Halstead. But we had more, Carlos weaved and beat three before scuffing wide, and Phillips chip cross was volleyed just a smidge too high by AJ.
So it ended 1-1, but we suddenly looked like a team on the front foot who could cause others problems. More please?
