Shrimps Trust release centenary flag in recognition of 100 years of Morecambe Football Club

Shrimps Trust, a member-led society in support of Morecambe Football Club, has revealed its contribution to the celebrations of the Football Club’s centenary year. With support from Watford FC’s 1881 Movement, the Trust has commissioned a 15 metre by 6 metre commemorative flag showing four of the Club’s badges used by Morecambe over recent decades, alongside that of the Trust.

With supporters not expected to return to the Mazuma Stadium until at least 3 October, the hope is that the banner will provide some pleasure to those watching games from home over the course of September. Steve Doran, Shrimps Trust Chair added “We are immensely grateful to Trust members and Shrimps fans who have contributed to the flag fund. Supporters will be thrilled with the outcome of many months of hard work creating a truly remarkable piece of football culture to celebrate 100 years of Morecambe Football Club”.

Eric Morecambe enthusiasts will notice the wording on the flag, which reads “Playing All The Right Notes Since 1920”, pays homage to the Morecambe and Wise 1971 Christmas show featuring Andre Previn.

The Trust are actively working to create more flags for the Mazuma Stadium, as just a small part in their efforts to enhance the match day experience for Morecambe supporters. Anyone interested in supporting the Trust can find out more about the organisation at www.shrimpstrust.co.uk.
