The Bantams arrived with a wealth of experience, a hefty and vociferous following of over 1700 and some points to get.
The Shrimps looked to halt a dismal run of defeats sprinkled with the odd draw here and there to claw back some points on the ever widening gap above us.
To be fair, both sides lacked a little quality in the final third in the first half, it was absorbing without being thrilling at any point, and remained pretty much action free. Other than a great chance at the back post for our old enemy Clayton Donaldson, who inexplicably attempted to stab home with the outside of his trusted right boot rather than sidefoot home with his left, resulting in it skewing wide, it was pretty quiet.
You did get the impression that City could perhaps step up another gear mind.
And so it proved early in the second period.Buxton attempted to beat one too many halfway inside the City half, Connolly robbed him a, outpaced Kenyon and pulled back for Akpan to slide home between the flailing legs of Old to open the scoring.
The Bantams did step up a gear, and a back post chance was saved by Baz. Subs came on for both sides, Kev replaced the injured Ajay, they brought Vaughan and Oteh on, gulp.
City applied more pressure, another back post cross being saved with his feet by Baz, but they were not to be denied. Oteh was slipped in on the left and slid home from an angle to double the lead.
This spurred the home side on, a great effort from sub Cole Stockton, was tipped onto the post, a Kev header hit the bar and a string of corners were barely cleared. However, they held out until injury time when after another neat corner routine, Tom Brewitt volleyed home to half the deficit.
Unfortunately there was barely seconds left and City held out to take the spoils that could and probably should have meant a point a piece.However, we continue to improve our play and create chances, but always when we are a goal down and fail to take the majority of the chances we get.
This must be rectified and quickly if we are to halt this alarming run of form.
