Shrimps 3-1 Carlisle Eh

  • On November 17, 2019

Leasing Cup, Tuesday 12 Nov, Globe Arena.

So we are out of the Leasing Cup, and so are Carlisle, so this dead rubber saw us field a strong side and the Cumbrians make changes. They started well, Branthwaite, a leggy centre back at 17 making an impression. Both sides tried to keep the ball down and play, with Carroll, a 20 year old Brentford loanee for the away side also catching the eye,
It was Branthwaite who robbed Wildig just inside the Shrimps half, strode on unchallenged and side footed home a left footed drive to give the visitors the lead. Stockton replied with header just wide and OSullivan too had across which evaded everyone when a touch would have meant goal.
New gaffer didn’t wait too long to change things around, sending on Sutton and Ajay, switching to 3-5-2 and pushing Conlan and Tanner wide and further forward on 55 minutes. It worked, Wildig was fouled, Tutte despatched the penalty high into the roof to equalise. Tutte’s first of the season.
Stockton was put through but the keeper was put quickly and smothered the chance. Tanner and Conlan were finding spaces and the Cumbrians were on the back foot. AJay was put in down the right by Tanner, he picked out the arriving Wildig who swept the ball their centre back into the net fro his first of the season.
Carlisle tested Halstead with couple of corners but in added time a back post Tanner cross was met on the half volley bt Conlan who looked surprised when it flew in for his first ever Shrimps goal, never mind of the season.
So 3-1, we pocket 10k for the win, so maybe not such a dead rubber after all.
What did we learn? DA will change things and quickly when he see its not working. It could be an interesting few weeks.
